The Zaka Rural District Council, has embarked on a significant refurbishment project for the Roy-Jerera roads. This initiative aims to improve the infrastructure and connectivity in the region, benefiting both residents and businesses. The refurbishment project is a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation networks and fostering economic development in the area.

The project would have encompassed various aspects of road infrastructure, including resurfacing, widening, and improving drainage systems along the Roy-Jerera roads. These efforts would gear towards enhancing road safety, reducing travel times, and ensuring smoother transportation flow for commuters and cargo alike. The project scope would likely also include the installation of road signage and markings to further enhance safety and navigation for road users. However the cash strapped Rural Council have only managed to put patches on potholes that had been a thorn in the flesh for motorists and travellers.

If implemented the refurbishment of the Roy-Jerera roads is expected to have a profound impact on the local community. Improved road conditions will not only make travel more convenient but also stimulate economic activities in the region. Businesses will benefit from better accessibility, while residents can look forward to safer and more efficient commuting experiences. Additionally, the enhanced infrastructure is likely to attract investment opportunities, further contributing to the area’s socio-economic growth.

While the Rural Council has attended to  the Roy-Jerera roads, attention is also needed for the patching of the Jerera-Chiredzi road. This stretch of road requires immediate maintenance to address existing potholes and surface irregularities. By addressing this issue, the Ministry of Transport and Roads can ensure comprehensive improvements to the entire transportation network in the region, promoting seamless connectivity across various destination

The Roy-Jerera-Chiredzi roads are vital for the movement of people and goods in the Lowveld, especially for the sugar cane industry, which employs thousands of workers and contributes to the national economy. However, the roads have been neglected and damaged by heavy rains, floods, and overloading, resulting in potholes, cracks, and erosion. The poor state of the roads has also caused accidents, injuries, and fatalities, as well as increased travel time and costs for motorists and commuters.
